GLOBAL TRADE DEVELOPMENT

February Global Trade activities consisted of reconnecting with local partners with several sites and meetings, all in preparation for a busy season of travel and client meetings to come, along with our big welcoming to Frontier Airlines back to FLL! (On February 17th, Tracy Vaughan, along with Broward County Mayor and Mark Gale spoke at FLL with Frontier’s announcement of 12 new routes into FLL including two brand new cities for FLL, Portland, Maine and Green Bay, Wisconsin.  “Powder” the Polar Bear also attended the event and was “Press Ready” for lots of flashing cameras.

Proceeding the event at the airport, our Global Trade Team, along with Neki Mohan, joined Frontier and the South Florida Audubon Society in an “adopt a dune” volunteer activation where they planted over 200 native dune plants in Pompano Beach.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with their organization, the South Florida Audubon Society is a local non-profit organization that is experienced in developing and delivering educational programs that encourage stewardship of the environment.  Adopt a Dune is an environmental organization that believes that by engaging the community through outreach and education, citizen volunteers can be part of the solution. Sand dunes that are populated with native vegetation act as natural buffers to protect the shoreline and adjacent properties from the effects of sand inundation, erosion, extreme storm events, and sea level rise.

The goal of Adopt a Dune program is to implement dune restoration program to help maintain the vistas and the planned removal of these single root invasive plants and more information can be found here:  www.adoptadune.com

The Global Trade’s engagement on their social pages on IG and Facebook @LeisureLauderdale have found excellent incremental reach, especially when showcasing our partners from our site visits throughout the county.  It is our goal to showcase local partners to their clients globally and open their eyes to areas they had perhaps not seen or heard about before; remember to follow along!  This past month our team visited and featured Best Western Plus Oceanside Inn, Ocean Sky Hotel and Resort, Atlantic Hotel & Spa, Courtyard Fort Lauderdale Downtown, AC Marriott Fort Lauderdale Beach, Sonesta Fort Lauderdale Beach, Rodeway Inn & Suites Fort Lauderdale Airport & Cruise Port, Costa Hollywood Beach Resort, Kimpton Goodland Hotel Fort Lauderdale Beach, Windjammer Resort.

Visit Lauderdale’s Agent Training platform has officially gone live!  Our new program, called Lauderdale Loyalist, offers agents a unique training platform to learn about Greater Fort Lauderdale and provide them with interactive tools and promotional material to sell our destination.  We encourage everyone to log on and take the course!  Please log on with your email as if you were a travel advisor and fill out the questionnaire however you like so that you can access the program.  The mobile app will soon be available on all platforms as well along with a translated version in Spanish!

Looking forward to March, the Global Trade Team will start to be on the road and will attend two Travel & Adventure Shows, in Boston and NYC.  In Boston, we will host a travel advisor training seminar for up to 100 advisors.  Towards the end of the month, Cruise 360 will bring over 500 travel advisors to our destination with their annual conference being held at the Greater Fort Lauderdale Broward County Convention Center.  The Global Trade Team, along with Port Everglades, will have a prominent island exhibitor space at their trade show on Thursday, March 31st and will be hosting two training seminars for travel advisors.   On April 3rd & 4th, we will also host four different FAM trips for advisors attending Cruise 360.

The team will be planning for their first trip to South America since the pandemic, along with partners to World Travel Market, Sao Paolo. This event takes place in early April and the team is busy now making appointments with key tour operators and trade media.
