FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — Fort Lauderdale is brimming with history and unique things to do and experience, but one of the newer things to do will have you brewing and experimenting at Fort Lauderdale's oldest Distillery.

Joe Durkin knows a thing or two about the perfect pour when it comes to craft cocktails. You have to when you open and run Fort Lauderdale's oldest distillery.

What You Need To Know

Durkin and his partner crafting their own spirits on site, while also teaching the tricks of their trade.

“They can make it how they want.. if they want it to be more lavender forward they can do that.. you tweak it for your pallet you're essentially making a tea bag for the spirit," Durkin said while teaching one of their new gin making classes.

At South Florida Distillers you get to craft your own special blend of infused gin.

“With gin we use a lot of different infused botanicals so I like to smell each one before I mix them together," Durkin explained to the class.

Starting by choosing a mixture of different botanicals, like juniper and lavender you craft your own unique scent and taste.

“This is very interesting I feel like I'm in a laboratory," one of the participants said while crafting her gin.

You're their from the start, all the way through the infusion where you get to see the whole process completed.

Pouring, bottling, and labeling your very own creation.

By the end of the 2 hour course you'll be feeling like a newly appointed distiller and reap the fruits of your labor.

South Florida Distiller's classes can be scheduled online or call them to see when they'll be hosting the next class.

Right now through september they have a partnership and deal through Visit Fortlauderdale, LauderDeals. You can find more at this website, https://www.sunny.org/plan-your-trip/deals-and-coupons/
