Wouldn’t it be great if you could get a FREE map to all the cool stuff in Fort Lauderdale? Yup, that can happen.

There’s now a one-stop resource for what’s going on with the creative side of things in Broward County — a free map you can print out or order that shows where you can find art, fashion and music.

The Underground Create Map is being offered by the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau for locals as well as out-of-towners. It is available at Sunny.org/Create.

“Prior to this, if you went to a hotel or a venue and said you wanted to visit the creative scene, they would probably send you to somewhere like FAT Village or a gallery,” says Noelle Stevenson, the bureau’s vice president of film, music, fashion and create. “But there was a universe out there … sort of scattered. And people didn’t know where to go. So putting it all under one umbrella made sense.”

The map also helps participants to coordinate with trolley tours, called Underground Stops, or U-stops.

“We are growing very, very rapidly, Fort Lauderdale and greater Broward County,” Stevenson says. “We do have the scene, that’s what’s interesting to me, but it was almost like a cache. There’s so many more coming to the table. There’s a movement going on right now in the creative scene … available not only to our residents but to tourists. You can be in Flagler Village and every time you drive around the block, there’s something artistic going on. Even our own community doesn’t know about it, [so] how can we expect our tourists to know about it?”

But she is quick to add, “We stayed away from the word ‘art,’ because it is so much more than that. [People] think it’s just galleries and museums. But there’s so much more. You also have categories like festivals and music.”
