Travel Guide: Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Time to share our next stop during our family vacation with VISIT FLORIDA! Welcome to Fort Lauderdale guys, full of fun for the family and so many beautiful beaches too. We visited the Everglades Holiday Park (a gator sanctuary-not a zoo) and saw alligators up close, I still have goosebumps!

First of all Fort Lauderdale is a must when visiting Florida, it is such a hot spot. Some people call it the Venice of the United States because of all of the canals, it’s a pretty cool area of Florida.

Where to Stay

For accommodations, we were put up at The Lago Mar Beach Resort & Club, it had great pools, an AMAZING beach with so many activities for kids. A basketball court on the beach, tennis courts, mini putt, life size chess board and even a playground on the beach…oh, and did I mention they had hammocks on the beach? What more can a family of 4 ask for! The rooms were also super spacious, we had a family suit with a kitchenette, living room and huge bedroom too which was great for the kids. When traveling with kids, try to book the bigger rooms if you can – that extra bit of square footage will save everyones sanity!

Where to Eat

If you are looking to venture off of your resort, I highly recommend checking out the restaurant scene around Fort Lauderdale – there are some serious gems in this area.wqa

Louie Bossi’s located at 1032 E Las Olas Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301.

This restaurant is so unique in the best way, make sure to book a table on their back “patio” – it is so whimsical and fun and they even have bocci ball set up back there! The photos give you a pretty great idea of the space but that’s only a 1/4 of it! The food is INSANE!!!! Fresh pasta and bread daily, we tried SO many things on the menu and each were cooked to perfection with so much flavour too. And the kids loved it there too which is important during family travel, they had fun colouring books for the littles (and bocci ball, hello) and we always bring a pack of UNO cards everywhere to keep everyone entertained and avoid turning to screens! Our waiter was Mauricio and he’s awesome and can recommend a great line up for your meal.

My Organic Corner located at 127 Weston Rd, Weston, FL 33326.

After a night of heavy gluten & dairy indulgence (2 things I should normally avoid), I was in need of some serious milk alternatives and fresh greens. I always know to look up “vegan” in my maps for restaurants because I am sure to find what I am looking for. After reading reviews we drove to My Organic Corner and had the best lunch, we even went back for breakfast on our last day in Florida! We had smoothie bowls, salads, vegan burritos and a yummy golden milk latte for me.

Nanou Bakery located at 2915 E Las Olas Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316.

The cutest and most delicious French café located near the beach in Lauderdale! We had warm, fresh AUTHENTIC French croissants stuffed with fresh scrambled eggs! All of us loved it and you can be sure we left with their delicious lattes (yes they have milk alternatives, thank goodness) and macarons!!!! I am assuming this spot is family run as it seemed like it was a father & son, excellent customer service and it was nice to speak French with a few people while in Florida.

Pelican Landing located at 2301 SE 17th St, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316.

With breathtaking views of the water, we had a super fun dinner here right at the Pier Sixty-Six Marina. Our waiter was awesome (ask for Vin Diesel ha ha) and he was the sweetest guy, made all of us laugh too! He recommended the fish tacos, catch of the day and the cronuts….guys, it was all delicious! We watched the sunset while eating outside on the deck and it made for the perfect night as a family, with another game of UNO of course haha.

If you are looking to take an adventure off the beaten bath, literally – we recommend the Everglades Holiday Park! We learnt so much about the eco-system in the area there from the tour managers, the boat ride was thrilling and seeing an alligator up close was adrenaline rush for sure for all of us!

Bocci ball & colouring at Louie Bossi’s before all of the delicious Italian food came out!

And we of course finished it off with gelatos!

Always a fun night when you get to start it off as a cute mermaid!
